Church Nursery Guidelines
“And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.”
~Matthew 18:5
Purpose
The nursery supports parents by providing for the churches physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of young children during Sunday worship service.
Policy
We believe that children are a blessing from God. Pine Island Baptist Church (PIBC) provides these guidelines to give children the best possible care. It is our desire to protect the health and safety of those involved in the nursery ministry as well as all others who enter our doors. All members of the nursery ministry are required to follow these guidelines and procedures.
Nursery Guidelines
1.
No children should be allowed in nursery without an adult.
2.
A child who has a temperature, eye-drainage (pink eye), runny nose, or any signs of possible severe illness will not be permitted in the nursery.
3.
An adult member (18 years or older) of the nursery ministry may allow younger teenagers willing to serve as a nursery worker to assist them in caring for the children in the nursery. No children under the age of 12 will be allowed to work in the nursery unless assisted by their parents or have special permission to do so.
4.
Sanitize all toys and wipe down all equipment after each use.
5.
Pickup all toys and store in containers provided.
6.
Before leaving nursery, make sure the room has been cleaned, remove trash, turn off lights, and close doors.
Nursery Use
1.
A member from the nursery ministry will be assigned one Sunday a month.
2.
Nursery will only be open during Sunday service for children age 3 and under.
3.
No one other than persons working with the nursery ministry should be in the nursery during Sunday service.
4.
Snacks are located in the cabinet and will be provided by the nursery staff on Sunday.
5.
Persons interested in becoming a member of the nursery ministry should contact the Nursery Ministry.
6.
People who wish to make a donation to the nursery ministry should see a member of the nursery committee.
Parental Requirements
1.
A one-time registration form must be completed before any child will be admitted to the nursery. You will sign your child in and out each Sunday.
2.
Parents should label all personal belongings (cups, bottles, bags, etc.).
3.
Only you will be allowed to pickup you child at the end of the service unless specified on the registration form.
4.
Children 12 months and younger will go to bed/baby nursery, no exceptions. Children 1 – 3 years will go to toddler nursery.
5.
Children with any of the following symptoms will not be allowed in the nursery:
a.
Fever of 100 or above within the last 24 hours.
b.
Diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
c.
Nausea or repeated vomiting within the last 12 hours.
d.
Persistent cough.
e.
Undiagnosed or untreated rashes.
f.
Green or dark yellow mucus discharge from the nose.
g.
Pinkeye and not on antibiotics for at least 24 hours.
6.
Please notify us if your child has any kind of food allergy or sensitive skin.
7.
Nursery staff will not give medicine.
8.
Separation Anxiety: At this age, some children who are left in our care tend to cry, but then are easily distracted within a few minutes. If your child continues to cry and our efforts to comfort fail beyond 10 minutes, we will notify you so that you can take care of the situation. Parents are welcome to stay with their child if they so desire.
9.
Nursery opens 10 minutes before each service and closes 10 minutes after its conclusion.
In Conclusion
The PIBC Nursery is staffed entirely by volunteers. We encourage anyone with a heart for children as well as all parents of infants and toddlers to serve in nursery ministry. Thank you for your cooperation and for the privilege of ministering to your children. Please read our guidelines that are meant to make our nursery as healthy and safe as possible for everyone.
